Cancel the Dictionary is operated by WhyTrest Pty Ltd. You can browse and search without receiving our voting cookie.
When you submit an action
We place one first-party cookie named ctd_visitor in your browser. It contains a random identifier, expires after 12 months and is used only to prevent the same browser cancelling the same word repeatedly and to limit abusive submissions.
We store a one-way hash of that identifier with the word cancelled and the submission time. We do not store the original identifier in the voting database.
What we do not collect
- No account, name, email address or explanation for your vote.
- No advertising identifiers, cross-site tracking or sale of information.
- No voter country or precise location in the voting database.
Infrastructure
Cloudflare delivers and protects the site. Like other internet infrastructure providers, it processes technical request data such as IP addresses and device or browser information for delivery, security and abuse prevention. Our application does not copy IP addresses into the voting database.
Purpose, retention and choices
Where a legal basis is required, we rely on our legitimate interest in maintaining the integrity and security of the public register. Hashed vote receipts are retained with the register so duplicate votes can be detected; aggregate vote totals may remain even when a technical record is removed.
You can block or delete the cookie in your browser. Doing so removes this browser’s local identifier and means the site can no longer recognise its earlier voting record.
Contact messages
If you use the contact form, WhyTrest receives the message and any contact details you choose to include. That information is used to read and, where possible, respond to your message. It is not combined with voting records.
Questions or requests
Use the contact form for privacy questions or requests. We may need the browser that cast the votes to verify which pseudonymous records are yours.
